Support for ICICS-Affiliated Graduate Students
Graduate students supervised/co-supervised by ICICS members have access to a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories in the ICICS facilities. They also benefit from the collegial, multidisciplinary environment of ICICS, and typically enjoy very high placement rates at top companies and universities. ICICS supports affiliated graduate students through the following programs.
Conference Travel Support
ICICS provides up to $700 to ICICS-affiliated graduate students (Masters or PhD) once over the course of their graduate study at UBC, to travel to a conference with published proceedings. Only one student per ICICS professor per fiscal year (April 1–March 31) is eligible for this support. ICICS’ support must be acknowledged by an acknowledgement line in full papers presented (ie., not just abstracts; see application form for template). Travel support is granted on a first-come, first-served basis, and is for upcoming travel only; retroactive claims will not be accepted. Please submit a completed application form to Sharon Cavalier, ICICS Administrator (admin[at]icics.ubc.ca), asap once your attendance at the conference is confirmed.
ICICS Graduate Scholarships
ICICS grants four $5000 scholarships per year for two consecutive years to incoming PhD students who will be supervised by full ICICS members. Nominees are identified by the student’s home department, and the ICICS Graduate Affairs Committee decides on recipients, with preference given to those whose research is strongly multidisciplinary in nature (e.g., will be co-supervised).
ICICS Workshops/Events
ICICS holds workshops and events throughout the year to promote collaboration with industry and other academic researchers, locally, nationally, and internationally. Most of these are open to students, who benefit tremendously from the networking and learning opportunities they present.
Poster Printing/Laminating and Photocopying Services
ICICS provides access to photocopying as well as a poster printing/laminating service to graduate students working in an ICICS lab in the ICICS/CS building and who are supervised by an ICICS member. For full details, please consult the ICICS Poster Printing/Photocopying Service information sheet.
